Relatives of road accidents victims demanded a faster trial and harsher punishments for those convicted. After a meeting with Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov on Thursday, Krasimir Arsov, the father of 15-year-old Filip Arsov, who was hit by a drunk driver on a pedestrian crossing in Sofia in September 2023, said he and others involved in the meeting had received an understanding of the problems they faced.

"We are not looking for revenge. We want there to be no others like us. We want no more people killed on the road," Arsov said.

He said that in a number of cases the prosecution service and investigating police officers do not work qualitatively, and in some cases deliberately botch investigations resulting in minimal convictions.

"This will not be our last meeting with the Prosecutor General as a lot of work is required on this issue. We have been assured that we can approach him when we notice systematically unfinished work," Arsov added.

Parents of children who died in accidents announced that they are to meet with Supreme Court of Cassation President Galina Zaharova and expressed hope that workable solutions will be found.

Angels on the Road Association have commented with Sarafov on a possible legal change to allow the use of traffic data in crash investigations. The problem of the shortage of expert witnesses was also brought up .

Parents recalled that they had also had a number of meetings at the Interior Ministry at which the possibility of more laboratories to deal with drivers' blood samples had been commented on.
