Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov opened a home retrofitting campaign in Burgas on Thursday. He visited an apartment building in the Meden Rudnik housing estate to inspect the implementation of energy efficiency measures.
Zhelyazkov said the effort is kicking off after a long delay of the Energy Efficiency Programme. He commented: “It turned out that all other forms, hybrid or partly hybrid, didn’t work. Solely public funding is the only model that works, because it inspires people’s trust.”
He spoke of two different patterns of energy efficiency. It can be achieved either by producing energy or saving energy, he said. “We are working to produce more energy, which is why we pay special attention to Bulgaria’s nuclear power potential.” At the same time, he said, saving energy is important for cutting down on consumer bills. “The quality of life depends on energy,” Zhelyazkov noted.
According to the Prime Minister, the Bulgarian Development Bank will be providing considerable support for the Energy Efficiency Programme.
An inspection visit to the St Anastasia Children’s Hospital is also on Zhelyazkov’s Burgas itinerary.
