The strongest in a series of earthquakes in recent weeks shook the Cyclades (Southeast Greece) on Monday, Greek media reported. Its magnitude was initially announced at 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale, but Tuesday's Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA) report revised the reading to 5.2 - the same as the previous record in the series of tremors between the islands of Santorini and Amorgos set last Wednesday.
According to the Hellenic Institute of Geodynamics, the quake was registered at 10:16 p.m. on Monday with its epicenter at sea 14 km south-southwest of Arkesini.
Since the strong quake, 7 more earthquakes with magnitudes between 4 and 5 have occurred in the area during the night.
From January 26 to February 8, over 12 800 earthquakes took place in the area.
