Botulinum toxin lacking documentation verifying its origin was discovered during inspections in Kardzhali, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Sliven, and Yambol, while in Blagoevgrad and Plovdiv, unlabelled vials with botulinum toxin were also found, the Health Ministry said on its website.
Between February 4 and 7, regional health inspections examined 1,145 establishments as part of an operation ordered by Health Minister Silvi Kirilov, targeting the unregulated offering and application of various aesthetic procedures.
Authorities have notified the Executive Agency for Medical Supervision and the Bulgarian Drug Agency about the violations.
At the beginning of February, Minister Kirilov instructed nationwide inspections of unauthorized medical activities and services in the field of aesthetic medicine. The crackdown followed reports of several women being hospitalized at the Pirogov emergency hospital in Sofia after complications from cosmetic botulinum toxin injections.
