A special parliamentary commission to investigate the fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Turkish ski resort Kartalkaya (Bolu district) will be formed this week, Turkish media reported.
The tragedy on January 21 killed 78 people and injured 51.
The commission is expected to consist of 22 people, and Selami Altinok, a MP from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and former interior minister, will likely be appointed as its chair.
The commission's working period will be 3 months, and if necessary, this period can be extended. The commission, which can also work outside Ankara, will invite representatives of the relevant ministries and institutions to the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye to hear them.
Meanwhile, the Unfair Price Evaluation Board of the Ministry of Trade has imposed criminal sanctions totaling TRY 126.7 million, CNN-Turk reported.
The decision to impose the fines was made at the board's first meeting this year after relevant inspections (in many cases, excessive price increases for fire safety equipment were found).
