The Cabinet has approved a Government Debt Management Strategy for 2025-2028, the government press service said here on Wednesday.

This four-year strategy sets out the core principles and guidelines for managing the government debt, specifying the measures and tools needed to achieve its objectives. The timeframe has been extended to four years, reflecting the revised EU economic governance framework.

The document’s assumptions on required debt financing and parameters underpin the 2025 State Budget Bill and the updated medium-term budget forecast for 2025-2028, ensuring consistency and alignment in the government's debt management policy.

The primary goal remains to secure the funds necessary for refinancing outstanding debt, covering the planned State budget deficit, and ensuring the liquidity position of the fiscal reserve.

By making the strategy public, the government fosters predictability and transparency in the government debt management processes.
