Continue the Change (CC) published a statement on its website on the detention of an associate of CC co-leader Asen Vassilev.
According to CC, the Prosecution Service and the Commission for Combating Corruption (CCC) searched the house of Lachezar Stavrev, associate of CC co-leader Assen Vassilev, after which detained him for questioning. The statement adds "that the probable reason [for the detainment] is that Stavrev was mentioned in the so-called "testimony" of the former head of the Customs Agency Petya Bankova, retrieved allegedly under pressure, after an arrest lasting nearly 7 months."
CC claims that the aim is, after the request for immunity of CC co-leader Kiril Petkov, to "hit" the other CC co-chairman - Assen Vassilev.
"We declare that we will not give in, we will stand firmly behind any of our people when they are pressured, arrested and questioned illegally", the CC statement says. "The pressure will not stop us in our fight to change the judiciary and to stop the election of the Prosecutor General in a predetermined procedure with one candidate from the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) with an expired mandate", it adds.
