The Burgas region has all the prerequisites to be an economic leader in the country, yet it continues to lag behind, stated Vazrazhdane MP candidate Boris Aladzhov on Friday.

"An industrial and logistics park was built in Burgas, but the investments there are mainly in the field of logistics and repairs at the expense of the industrial sector", Aladzhov said. He cited data, according to which Burgas region ranked 10th in the fourth quarter of 2023 in terms of average gross monthly salary. In addition, the regional centre lags behind in almost all economic sectors.

"Burgas needs large investors to create conditions for the construction and development of new industries with high added value, including more innovative ones", Aladzhov emphasised, adding that in order for this to happen, the municipalities in Burgas region must take taxation and administrative measures to stimulate activity.

Aladzhov also noted that he will continue to work on revising the Burgas Airport concession contract, and more specifically, adding clauses that would oblige the concessionaire to provide year-round flights. The lack of direct flights, few off-season events and infrastructure problems prevent the Burgas region from becoming a year-round tourist destination", he concluded.
