Within 12 hours during tests of an average speed control system via the toll system, 922 speed violations were detected by only one gantry, Regional Minister Ivan Ivanov told journalists on Friday. He urged drivers to obey traffic rules because breaking them often has fatal consequences.

On Thursday, Bulgaria began testing an average speed control system on a 10.278 km stretch of the Sofia Northern Speed Tangent.

Ivanov said that the toll system's cameras will start measuring average speed after the adoption amendments to the Road Traffic Act. Which roads will initially be covered by these cameras will be decided further, the Regional Minister said.

Minister Ivanov inspected the progress of the construction of the Mezdra-Botevgrad expressway and Lot 1 of the Hemus motorway.
