Ukraine will receive an additional EUR 21 billion in military aid in 2025, British Defence Secretary John Healey and German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius announced on Friday at a joint press conference with their Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov at NATO headquarters. The UK and Germany co-chair the meeting of NATO Defence Ministers of 51 Member States in Brussels, Belgium, on April 11, 2025.
The participants in the Contact Group on Defence of Ukraine in the Ramstein format announced their commitments for military assistance, which is a record increase in military funding for the country, co-chair of the meeting, British Defence Secretary Healey said.
Ukraine must be able to defend itself so that the negotiations can lead to a lasting and just peace, we have made great progress, and this will be reflected on the battlefield this year, co-chair of the meeting, German Defence Minister Pistorius said. He predicted that peace is not in the foreseeable future. He explained that some of the participants in the meeting joined by videoconference, including US Defense Secretary, due to previous commitments.
According to Healey, Russian President Vladimir Putin claims to want peace, but is stalling negotiations and continuing to shell targets in Ukraine. We are sending a signal to Putin and Ukraine that we support Kiev in war and in peace.
Russia is accelerating the production of ammunition, it shows no will to work towards the achieving of lasting peace, Minister Umerov said. The United States continues to provide military support, he added. According to Umerov, Europe and Ukraine are the United States primary partner. We support Washington's efforts to achieve peace, the Ukrainian minister pointed out.
