The European Union exported spacecraft products, including satellites, suborbital and spacecraft launch vehicles, worth EUR 1.217 billion in 2024, according to the Statistical Office of the European Commission (Eurostat) on Friday. Eurostat’s article coincides with the International Day of Human Spaceflight, which is observed on April 12.

Bulgaria's exports of spacecraft products amounted to EUR 5.6 million in 2024, a significant increase from EUR 853,889 in 2023. Among the 17 EU countries for which data is available, Bulgaria ranked eighth in terms of the value of spacecraft products’ exports in 2024.

Compared to pre-pandemic 2019, EU exports grew by EUR 17 million (a 2% increase), while the value of imports of these products into the EU rose by 41% - from EUR 117 million to EUR 166 million.

Germany was the leading exporter of space equipment within the EU, supplying nearly EUR 825 million worth of goods to international partners.

The United States was the largest destination for European spacecraft equipment exports in 2024, receiving 77.3% of the total exports. Indonesia ranked second, contributing 9.7%, while South Korea was third with 8.6%.
