The European Commission strongly condemns any misleading statements designed to deliberately confuse citizens, a spokesperson for the European Commission said on Friday at a press conference in response to questions regarding statements made by Bulgarian politicians about the Savings and Investment Union strategy.

"Let us be perfectly clear – such statements are incorrect and misleading. Citizens of the EU have full freedom to choose where to invest their funds, as they see fit. They have complete control over where to hold and direct their savings," the spokesperson emphasized.

According to the spokesperson, the Savings Union aims to provide citizens with a broader range of investment options in capital markets.
