site.btaPresident to Meet Wednesday Individuals Eligible to Become Caretaker PM
President Rumen Radev will be meeting Wednesday the individuals eligible for appointment as caretaker Prime Minister, the President's Press Secretariat said Tuesday. That is the latest development amid a crisis following the President's decision not to decree the appointment of a caretaker cabinet proposed by Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva over the presence in it of Kalin Stoyanov as Interior Minister.
The pool includes the National Audit Office President and two Vice Presidents, the National Ombudsman and one deputy, the Parliament Chair and the Governor and Deputy Governors of the central bank.
Of these, the position of National Ombudsman has been vacant for a while, the deputy ombudsman recently resigned, the central bank said that the European Central Bank rules do not allow the governor to become caretaker Prime Minister, the two National Audit Office vice presidents are with expired terms in office, and the last National Audit Office President, Dimitar Glavchev, is now caretaker Prime Minister and there is a controversy over whether he can be offered one more stint as caretaker Prime Minister (even though he has expressed readiness for this scenario).
