No air pollution has been detected in Svishtov following a fire and a blast at the Svilosa chemical plant on Monday, Veliko Tarnovo Regional Environment and Water Inspectorate (REWI) Director Maya Radeva told BTA on Tuesday.

Radeva said that the measurements from 15 distinct gas mixtures, obtained using a mobile unit, remained within permissible limits. Data from the mobile station placed adjacent to the Town Hall verified the lack of air pollution.

Radeva said that air quality monitoring will continue over a three-day period, followed by comprehensive summaries from the official reports.

In her words, the situation was promptly contained Monday by immediately halting plant production, which prevented the release of excessive gas mixtures that could potentially endanger public health. She added that local residents' health is currently not at risk.

The Executive Environment Agency oversees key air quality indicators such as fine particulate matter, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, and ozone, Veliko Tarnovo REWI said.

A mobile station was installed after the fire at the Svilosa plant was extinguished on Monday, to monitor air quality.
