Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev will visit the Danube Bridge near Ruse on Friday, the press service of the Council of Ministers said.
The purpose of the visit is to inspect the organisation of traffic of cars and trucks, after Bulgaria became part of the land Schengen area at the beginning of this year. He will also check the progress of the ongoing repair of the Danube Bridge.
On January 4, the Prime Minister spoke with Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Violeta Koritarova. Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimira Stoyanova, Customs Agency Director Georgi Dimov and the Regional Governor of Ruse Dragomir Draganov in connection with alerts of issues with the free passage across the Danube Bridge. The Prime Minister ordered immediate measures to reorganize traffic so as to avoid any traffic difficulties and strictly implement Schengen rules, the statement said.
The virtual queue system on the Danube Bridge only works during heavy traffic, Ruse Mayor Pencho Milkov and Regional Governor and Dragomir Draganov said the same day.
