Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev has visited an armoured vehicle manufacturer International Armored Group's (IAG) plant under construction in Burgas. Radev and his spouse, Desislava Radeva, were welcomed by IAG founder and owner Anton Stefov, who briefed them on the investment project’s plans and opportunities, the head of State's press secretariat said on Thursday.

The plant is expected to open on October 1 and employ mainly Bulgarian specialists. The project envisages the production of various types of armoured vehicles in line with NATO standards and drones for rescue, reconnaissance, and emergency squads.

Also present was Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, whose municipality is tasked with building the plant’s infrastructure in the industrial zone of the Black Sea city.

The training of qualified personnel in Bulgaria and the contribution of the defence industry to economic growth and employment were discussed during Radev’s visit. The President highlighted the importance of industrial cooperation, the advancement of logistics, and opportunities to support defence capabilities in the process of modernizing the Bulgarian Armed Forces. The implementation of high-tech solutions in the production of defence equipment and the involvement of the scientific community were discussed.
