There are no indications that any of the Bulgarian institutions have assisted in circumventing the sanctions against Russia, said Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov on Friday, commenting once again on the issue of the Center for the Study of Democracy's report about Lukoil's circumvention of international sanctions and export of fuel from Bulgaria.

"It is good to have a check. The fact that the check will be done by the European Commission will give even more certainty that it will be meaningful and objective. What I've seen since yesterday [Thursday] is a combination of true facts and false assumptions that are presented in a rather one-sided logical construction that can easily be used for political gain. Personally, I am very glad that there will be verification. We will cooperate with whatever is necessary," the Prime Minister said.

Denkov commented on the issue at the Novo Selo training range, where he and NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana observed the demonstration of operational capabilities for conducting a defence operation, held within the framework of the Iron Strike 2023 exercise.

The Prime Minister also said that the sanctions had been respected by the Bulgarian institutions as defined, but a more thorough check should be made on the allegations of their violation. "The verification should be done more thoroughly to see, if there are violations, who made them and where. Whoever has committed violations should be subject to the appropriate penalties," Prime Minister Denkov said.
