Turkiye’s President of Religious Affairs, Prof. Ali Erbas, has called for a peacekeeping force in the Middle East to stop Israel's actions, the Turkish Directorate of Communications said in a press release.

A peacekeeping contingent should be deployed to the region as soon as possible to protect people from atrocities. The Rafah border crossing and the humanitarian corridor to Palestine must be opened immediately, given the approaching winter season, Erbas said in a joint statement with Muslim scholars and religious leaders of various denominations.

Measures must be taken to ensure the supply of basic goods and aid, especially the provision of electricity and water in the Gaza Strip, the press release read.

Leaders are expected to take the necessary measures to prevent a global war and chaos, the statement added.

To avert an even greater catastrophe, the UN must take legal action over the loss of life and property caused by the illegal attacks on Palestinian lands and neighbouring areas, the press release further said, adding that Zionists have become the greatest threat to world peace and security and are endangering the future of humanity.

The statement added that Israel "receives unconditional support from some countries."

"Emboldened by this irresponsible support, the network of killers has expanded its targets by launching attacks against Lebanon and Syria. These attacks reveal the true intentions and goals of the Zionists - they are trying to spread the war throughout the region, seeking to seize more land and destabilize the entire region," the press release.

Erbas also called on "international organizations and especially Islamic countries to act immediately to stop the genocide in Palestine".
