Meeting Jordan's Top Diplomat,
PM Borissov Backs
Aqaba Process

August 20 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with visiting Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, the Bulgarian government press office reported on Tuesday. During the talks, Borissov said Jordan is an important partner to Bulgaria in the Middle East and North Africa region.

The meeting focused on the Aqaba Process, an initiative launched in 2015 in the Jordanian city of the same name by King Abdullah II to strengthen international and regional cooperation against terrorism, radicalization and violent extremism.

Borissov said Sofia highly values the counterterrorism initiatives of the King of Jordan, the most important part of which are the meetings within the Aqaba Process. He said Bulgaria is willing to consider possible forms of cooperation with the Aqaba Process in the framework of other formats such as the South-East European Cooperation Process or the Berlin Process.

Borissov noted the role of the Union for the Mediterranean, which has become a major forum for political and economic debate concerning regional partnership and integration. The Union for the Mediterranean is co-chaired by Safadi.

Borissov and Safadi also considered ways to boost bilateral trade, economic and investment relations and to establish closer contacts between the two countries' business communities.
