Sofia, August 22 (BTA) - The first electric scooter sharing service in the Bulgarian capital Sofia was launched on Thursday. It is provided by Lime, a private company. Two more companies have shown interest in providing similar services.
Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, who attended the opening ceremony together with Municipal Council Chair Elen Gerdjikov, said that 58 parking slots have been set up around the city so far. The plan is to provide a total of 200 parking slots for shared electric scooters, bicycles and other two-wheelers.
City Hall has established scooter traffic rules such as a 5 km/h speed limit in public parks and a requirement to dismount and push the scooter in pedestrian areas like the downtown Vitosha Boulevard. Another important requirement is for parking to be carried out in an orderly manner.
Sofia City Hall and the State Agency for Road Safety are working together on a bill to amend the Road Traffic Act in order to regulate electric scooter traffic.
Lime advises users always to ride responsibly, wear a helmet during the ride, observe all speed limits and other traffic rules, use only designated pathways such as streets and bikeways, park the scooter properly outside pedestrian crossings and service ramps, and behave responsibly with regard to motor vehicles, pedestrians and other road traffic participants.
To use Lime, you need to download an application which is available on Android and iOS, find an available scooter on the map and unlock it by entering a QR code and pushing a button. At the end of your ride, you simply have to follow the instructions from the app about how to end the ride and park the scooter responsibly. Users are charged 1.5 leva for unlocking Lime and 0.30 leva for every minute of riding. LN/VE/ДЛ/
