August 26 (BTA) - Petko Doykov is Bulgaria's new Deputy Foreign Minister. He was appointed by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on a proposal by Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva, said the government press office Monday. He becomes Zaharieva's third deputy.
Doykov is a career diplomat and has taken various offices in the departments for the Middle East and Africa, as well as for the security policy and NATO. He has taken posts in the Bulgarian missions to NATO and Egypt. Between 2008 and 2012, he was Bulgarian Ambassador in Tunisia, then between 2014 and 2018 to India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Since March 2019, he has been Foreign Ministry Director General on bilateral matters.
The other two deputy foreign ministers are Georg Georgiev and Emilia Kraleva. Georgiev is in charge of America, Asia, Australia and Oceania, the Situation Centre, the Diplomatic Institute and the State Institute for Culture. Kraleva supervises the activities of the Political Affairs General Directorate; the European Affairs General Directorate; the European Union Policy and Institutions Directorate; the Common Foreign and Security Policy Directorate; the Southeast Europe Directorate; and the Security Policy Directorate.
