site.btaCustoms Officers Find Heroin Worth Over BGN 1 Million at Kapitan Andreevo
Customs officers of the Kapitan Andreevo border control checkpoint found over BGN 1 million worth of heroin on Sunday during an inspection of a car entering the country from Turkiye.
The inspection was part of the general anti-smuggling operations with the participation of officers of the Customs Agency, General Directorate Combating Organized Crime, the Border Police and the National Revenue Agency.
The officers found a total of 24 packages containing a powdery substance after dismantling the rear tires of the car, driven by a 24-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man. In the field drug test, the substance reacted to heroin. A pre-trial proceeding was initiated under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office.
Meanwhile, the Varna police on Tuesday discovered a drug greenhouse near the seaside city and found 117 green plants in various stages of development. A 40-year-old man who lived in the property was arrested.
The building also housed a lot of fertilisers and equipment to help grow marijuana. The investigation into the case continues, pre-trial proceedings have been initiated.
