The Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) has expressed an interest in expanding into the Bulgarian market, with member companies offering tropical timber and furniture. This transpired during a meeting between Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) President Tsvetan Simeonov and MTIB’s regional representative Gopinathan Tanikudy, as reported in the latest edition of the BCCI Infobusiness bulletin.
BCCI Vice President Krasimir Dachev, Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Bulgaria Petar Kurumbashev, and architect Yoana Petrova also attended the meeting.
Tanikudy, who is based in Rotterdam and leads the Malaysian Timber Council’s operations in Europe, briefed the participants in the meeting on the board’s activities.
Malaysia exports tropical timber to more than 170 countries worldwide. The main types of wood that the country exports are mango, teak and amaranth. MTIB member companies are highly experienced in the furniture industry, with some exporting their products to Bulgaria.
During the meeting, the sides agreed to organize an exhibition in Sofia in the near future. The event will feature companies from Malaysia’s furniture and woodworking sectors.
