Deputy Agriculture Minister Stefan Burdzhev said here Tuesday that when science and business collaborate closely, solutions can be found, pointing to the forum at this renowned scientific venue, focused on the livestock sector, as clear evidence.

Burdzhev spoke at the opening of the International Forum Contemporary Trends in Pig Farming: Scientific, Market, and Regulatory Aspects. Addressing the event on behalf of Agriculture Minister Georgi Tahov, Burdzhev congratulated the organizers and participants, noting that Bulgaria’s pig farming sector is well-structured and specialized, providing a foundation for stable development.

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Food collaborates with both the industry and the scientific community. We are open to your concerns, proposals, analyses, and trends, so we can tackle current and future challenges together,” Burdzhev said. He noted that due to the sector's unique characteristics, its dynamic environment, and changes in the international market, innovative solutions are essential and should be prioritized, including exploring alternative activities within traditional areas.

The forum covered topics such as animal welfare, derogations, regulatory changes, and financing. It also addressed the latest infectious diseases in Europe and the country's preventive measures, opportunities for sector growth, industry standards, the use of artificial intelligence in transforming pig farming, a new meat grading system in Bulgaria, and oversight throughout the entire agri-food chain.
