The two reactors for the Belene N-plant will not be sold, Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov told journalists on Tuesday.
He said that he held talks with the partners on the Joint Governance Council as well as with GERB leader Boyko Borissov and an agreement was reached. “Together we stood by this extremely important strategic choice,” he said, adding that these reactors are not for sale, but are a key asset for Bulgaria, part of its energy independence.
In 2023 Bulgaria launched negotiations with Ukraine on the sale of Belene N-plant's equipment for. Ukraine plans to use the two Russian reactors for an expansion of Ukraine's Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant.
The no-confidence vote is not just an attack on the government, but a purposeful attempt to block the work in the country and to bring back the chaos and political bacchanalia, Zafirov, who is chairman of BSP's National Council, said at a briefing at the BSP headquarters after a meeting of the coalition partners in BSP-United Left.
Zafirov said that in the first hundred days of this government, contracts were opened that have been draining public funds for years and the government has begun real preparations to end these dependencies. Work has also begun on key reforms, Zafirov said. In his words, this is exactly what is being attacked - the process of normalization in the state. It is evident that the opposition is not proposing real solutions, the opposition is only proposing a collapse with one goal - to stop the restoration of statehood. "BSP-United Left will not be part of this scenario,” he added. “Bulgaria does not need another institutional crisis,” Zafirov said.
