Sofia Municipality Reports 10% More Tourists in First Quarter of 2025

Sofia Municipality on Tuesday reported a 10% growth in tourists in the first three months of 2025 compared to 2024.

The municipal administration said that Sofia was visited by just over 280,000 tourists in the first quarter of 2025, while the realized overnight stays are nearly 630,000, which marks a 4% increase compared to 2024, according to data from the Unified Tourist Information System.

A total of 57% of visitors are foreigners, with the top 10 countries generating the most visits to the capital being Italy, Greece, Israel, Turkiye, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Romania, USA and France.

After the increase of the tourist tax at the end of 2024, Sofia Municipality reports a significant increase in revenues, amounting to nearly BGN 1.3 million for the first three months of 2025. For comparison, the revenues from the tourist tax were BGN 500,000 during the same period of 2024.
