Kosovo to Draw on Bulgaria's Experience in Agriculture

Sofia, February 8 (BTA) - Bulgaria is ready to provide expert assistance to the Republic of Kosovo in the sphere of agriculture, Agriculture and Food Minister Dessislava Taneva said during a meeting with Kosovo's Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development Minister Memil Krasniqi  here Monday. Taneva proposed to the visiting minister that her country send experts to Kosovo to provide assistance.

Krasniqi said that his country is interested in Bulgaria's experience in establishing the institutions which support agriculture, such as the Paying Agency. He noted that agriculture is one of the important sectors in Kosovo.
 
The two ministers discussed the opportunities for strengthening the bilateral cooperation in agriculture. The guest expressed interest in the development of wine production in Bulgaria. Taneva acquainted her counterpart with the processes in this sector which, in her words, is developing very well and manages to sell its produce abroad.
 
Bulgaria has around 60,000 ha of vineyards, 263 wine producers and wineries, and 9 wineries are currently being constructed. The sector is developing well also thanks to the EU pre-accession programmes and the Rural Development Programme, Taneva explained.

She and Krasniqi also discussed the opportunity for importing Bulgarian crude tobacco in Kosovo. The guest said that his country has a modern factory for processing tobacco and will check how such an import could be carried out.
