Trade Unions Want State to Work More Actively on Bulgaria's Entry in Schengen

Sofia, April 4 (BTA) - The current situation requires the inclusion of Bulgaria and Romania in the Schengen area, and the Bulgarian state bodies should present this demand to the EU partners, reads a position of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) on the refugee and migration crisis in the European Union. CITUB President Plamen Dimitrov presented the position at a news conference here Monday.

According to CITUB, the EU should elaborate a common migration policy. Also, the Bulgarian position on the European Commission's report on the country for 2016 should be presented at a meeting of the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation prior to April 15, when the position is scheduled to be presented in Brussels.

The Confederation has prepared a position on the European Commission' report reading that it is important to speed up the ratification of the Minimum Wage Fixing Convention (No. 131) of the International Labour Organization. CITUB also proposes that: the negotiated minimum insurance contributions per economic sphere become the minimum wage for the corresponding sphere; the taxation of natural persons be changed; Eurostat's estimates be used regarding the official poverty line.

CITUB approves the European Commission's intentions to amend the directive concerning business trips, Dimitrov said. The trade unions do not accept the State's negative position on the proposed amendments and think that it is acceptable only for the business community, the CITUB President added.
