PM Relieves Deputy Education Minister of His Duties

Sofia, April 5 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov relieved Deputy Education Minister Nikola Denkov of his duties at the latter's request, the Cabinet's press service said on Tuesday. Denkov has pointed major differences in the priorities and style of work with Education Minister Meglena Kuneva and part of the Ministry's team in the motives behind his request to quit.

Deputy Minister Denkov was a part of the Education Ministry team in three subsequent cabinets, which ensured continuity in the implementation of changes in the sectors under his jurisdiction - the higher education and the management of the European structural funds.

The documentation for accreditation of the Management Authority under OP Science and Education for Intelligent Growth is ready and has been successfully reviewed by the accreditation authority, Denkov also said. The important projects for the rating system of higher schools, teachers' qualification and extra-curricular activities are at a stage of evaluation or final stage of preparation.

Finally, Denkov noted the support received from Cabinet members and the National Assembly Education and Science Committee and voiced hope that the much-needed reforms will be successfully completed.
