Bulgaria and Greece Discuss Migration Control

Sofia, April 7 (BTA) - Bulgarian Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova met with Greece's Minister of Citizen Protection, Nikos Toskas, here on Thursday, Buchvarova's department said.

The two exchanged information about the current situation in Greece and the implementation of the EU-Turkey agreement. According to Toskas, things are moving in the right direction and if the current low rate of migration is preserved, the situation will return to normal very soon. Buchvarova assured Toskas that Bulgaria is trying to help Greece both by contributing to the actions of FRONTEX and the European Asylum Support Office and by honouring its own commitments about the relocation of refugees.

The two ministers considered ways to improve information sharing between their countries and practical joint steps to suppress trafficking in people. They praised the state of bilateral police interaction and expressed their readiness to invigorate Bulgarian-Greek border contacts. They also had an in-depth discussion about trilateral cooperation between Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. Toskas assured Buchvarova that Greece will shortly ratify a trilateral agreement inaugurating a liaison office at Kapitan Andreevo, Southern Bulgaria, close to the borders with Turkey and Greece.
