Parliament Will Have to Schedule National Referendum Initiated by  Popular TV Host Trifonov

Sofia, April 8 (BTA) - The check of the data and signatures collected in the initiative for holding a referendum of popular TV personality and show host Slavi Trifonov has been completed, the Regional Development and Public Works Ministry said on Thursday.

Out of the checked 672,488 entries, 572,000 were found to be correct. A total of 99,838 entries were incorrect. Of them, 71,179 were wrong standard public registry personal numbers, 8,103 were wrong addresses, and 6,469 had incomplete name or other errors.

According to the Referendums Act, provided that 400,000 legitimate signatures are collected by members of the public with voting rights, Parliament is to pass a resolution on holding a referendum.

The proposed referendum questions are for holding of parliamentary elections based on the majority rule in two rounds; halving the number of MPs in Parliament; making voting compulsory; introducing e-voting in elections and referendums; reducing the state subsidy for political parties and coalitions to 1 lev per vote received at the latest general elections; and introducing majority-rule elections in two rounds for the election with absolute majority of the directors of the Interior Ministry's regional departments and the heads of regional police stations.
