Prime Minister Borissov Confers with Secretary General of International Federation of  Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Elhadj As Sy

Sofia, April 8 (BTA) - At a meeting with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov here on Friday Secretary General of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Elhadj As Sy expressed gratitude for the serious and responsible work of the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC), the government's information service said.

The guest said that, judging by the work of the BRC society, one can see that it can rely on the support of the State. The participants in the meeting noted that the BRC society is one of the most active societies among the 190 national Red Cross societies members of the International Federation.

Borissov stressed the excellent cooperation and interaction between the BRC and the state institutions, not only within Bulgaria but also in support of other countries. The Prime Minister gave as an example the successful initiative with the Fire Safety and Protection of the Population for sending humanitarian aid to migrants in Greece and Macedonia.

The meeting also discussed the active communication between the BRC and the structures of the IFRC on priority issues, the exchange of experience and good practices, crisis response, youth activities and trainings. Other topics on the agenda of the meeting were climate change, reducing the risk of disasters and promotion of volunteer work.

Borissov and his guest stressed the need to champion humanitarian values, promote international solidarity and render aid.
