Interior Minister Buchvarova and Her Team Back Reform at Interior Ministry

Rousse, on the Danube, April 8 (BTA) - Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova said here on Friday that she and her team back the reform at the Interior Ministry. She was "perplexed" by the arguments on the strength of which the National Assembly Internal Security and Public Order Committee Wednesday rejected a bill amending the Ministry of Interior Act, which was supposed to lay the legal groundwork for the reform.

Bucharova attributes the lack of understanding on the part of some MPs to the fact that "when you have spent a long time in a system, you find it very difficult to accept and realize the point of changing it."

She admitted that the committee vote discredited the reform but hopes that the rest of the parliamentary committees, whose members have a different profile of competence, will show a different understanding "because, obviously, it is not easy to comprehend the idea of a reform."

Asked whether she is in a conflict with Internal Security and Public Order Committee Chairman Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Buchvarova declined to comment on personal relationships.

The Interior Minister arrived in Rousse for a meeting with her Romanian counterpart Petre Toba.
