Two Parties, One Movement Unite into People's Union

Sofia, April 9 (BTA) - At its 41st Congress here on Saturday, the Agrarian People's Union (APU) decided to unite with the Bulgarians for an Alternative to Scare, Totalitarianism and Apathy (BASTA) Party and the Future and Development of Bulgaria (FDB) Movement into a new political party called People's Union.

APU leader Roumen Yonchev was elected chairman of the new party. FDB founder Svetlin Tanchev became chairman of the People's Union Civic Council and chairman of its Governing Board.

Yavor Haitov, Georgi Kovachev and Maria Kunina were nominated and approved as deputy chairpersons of the People's Union.

Yonchev, Tanchev, Haitov and Kovachev are incumbent MPs of the Bulgarian Democratic Centre Parliamentary Group, of which Tanchev is Co-Floor Leader and Yonchev is Deputy Floor Leader. Haitov is Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly.

The People's Union positions itself at the centre of the political spectrum. It will target broader citizen representation in politics, promotion of small and midsize family business, entrepreneurship, economic prosperity and sustainable development of Bulgaria, introduction of e-governance, and reduction of licensing requirements.
