State to Guarantee ER Doctors Additional Pay of 1,500 Leva/Month

Veliko Turnovo, Northern Bulgaria, April 12 (BTA) - The State will guarantee additional pay of 1,500 leva/month to doctors in hospital emergency rooms, and 900 leva to ER nurses, Health Minister Peter Moskov said here on Tuesday. Moskov said that the agreement on the remuneration was signed on Tuesday and enters force retroactively as of January 1, 2016.

Moskov said that this is a state guarantee outside the contracts which the management of the respective hospital signs with ER doctors and nurses. He noted that this is part of the comprehensive healthcare policy of the ruling majority and the government.

Moskov also said that a strategic goal of the Ministry is to lift the requirement for medical treatment facilities to register under the Commerce Act. He said that a plan how to attain this is yet absent, and the efforts are focused on solving the problem with the debts accumulated by hospitals which amount to hundreds of millions of leva.

Moskov once again stressed that the time has come for the doctors to dissociate themselves from merchants. "Doctors should be ensured adequate pay while the invisible hand of the market should take care of merchants," the Minister said.

In Veliko Turnovo Moskov attended the opening ceremony of the renovated maternity and neonatology wards of the local hospital.
