Visiting Turkish Chief Public Prosecutor Akarca Confers with President Plevneliev, Prosecutor General Tsatsarov

Sofia, April 13 (BTA) - The state and prospects of development of the relations between Bulgaria and Turkey and the cooperation at all levels were high on the agenda of a meeting Tuesday between Turkey's Chief Public Prosecutor at the Supreme Court of Cassation Mehmet Akarca and President Rosen Plevneliev, Plevneliev's press secretariat said.

Akarca is paying a two-day official visit to Bulgaria. On the Turkish delegation are supreme prosecutors in charge of countering terrorism and illegal trade in weapons and drugs.

Plevneliev and his guest concurred that terror threats can only be countered with the joint efforts of all countries. Akarca said that the most important thing in the fight against terrorism is cutting the financial flows to the terrorist organizations. The guest stressed the importance of the cooperation with Bulgaria's Prosecuting Magistracy in this respect.

Plevneliev praised the agreement between the European Union and Turkey in tackling the migratory flow. He voiced a hope that a memorandum on readmission between Bulgaria and Turkey will be signed and enacted soon.

The two officials spoke in support of the efforts of Bulgaria's and Turkey's prosecuting magistracies in combatting international crime, organized criminal groups, drugs trafficking, trafficking in humans and children, movements of foreign fighters.

The Turkish official also conferred with Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov, the Prosecuting Magistracy said in a press release. Akarca said that terrorism has no religion, ethnic identity and gender. "There is no religion that permits the perpetration of terrorist acts," he said.

The guest also dwelled on the situation with migrants in Turkey.

Akarca expressed support for a proposal by Tsatsarov for closer interaction between the two countries' prosecution offices in the fight against terrorism and the illegal trade in weapons and drugs.

Akarca spoke about the legal reform carried out in his country and the changes in the system that will become effective in July.
