MRF Ready for Possible Early Elections But Will Not Push for Them

Isperih, Northeastern Bulgaria, May 14 (BTA) - "If, for the sake of security and stability in this country, it is necessary to conduct early elections, the MRF is ready to - and will - take part in such elections," Moustafa Karadayi, Chairman of the MRF (Movement for Rights and Freedoms), said on Saturday. But he added: "Being ready does not mean that the MRF will bring about early elections."

Karadayi was in Demir Baba Tekke, an area near Isperih, for a convention commemorating the forcible assimilation of ethnic Turks by the Communist regime in the 1980s.

He expressed his party's concern about the current political developments in Bulgaria. "I think early elections are already being brought about by this absurd majority which was formed a year and a half ago by ideologically diverse political forces," he commented. According to Karadayi, the ruling majority comprises forces which use hate talk as a political instrument.

"Hate talk is now being used not only by politicians; in public life it is perhaps the only language employed for communication," Karadayi went on to say. He vowed that the MRF will stand against that trend.

He sees no need for the MRF to talk with other parties about early elections because the ruling majority itself is in a crisis and is set on a course for early elections.

Asked whether the MRF will nominate its own candidate for this autumn's presidential ballot, Karadayi said simply: "There is still time until the presidential elections."
