BSP's National
Council Elects
New Executive Bureau

Sofia, May 21 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Socialist Party's (BSP)
National Council elected on Saturday a new Executive Bureau. The
party's leader Kornelia Ninova has put the newly elected body
on probation and reduced its privileges, she said at a news
conference following the election. Ninova herself was elected as
 BSP's leader earlier in May.

The party leadership members will not be entitled to wages,
vehicles, petrol allowances, business trips and phones. It is
suitable for BSP to make an example by cutting the privileges,
Ninova commented, adding that some 200,000 leva will be
redirected to party structures, which are BSP's backbone.

Ninova noted that she has proposed a different and innovative
approach by leaving the positions of deputy chairs and
secretaries vacant. "I am putting the new Executive Bureau on a
so called probation period, (during which) we will work as a
team and see everyone's abilities," she said, adding that only
after that will she propose candidates for these positions.

The only deputy chair in BSP's leadership so far is the famous
Bulgarian actor Stefan Danailov, whom Ninova thanked for
agreeing to take the position.

The new party leadership includes famous professionals from
various fields. Ninova has invited her predecessor Mihail Mikov
to join the leadership, but he has declined. The BSP leader
explained that she has purposefully sought people, who can act
as a corrective to her, adding that she has tried to combine the
 riches within the party.

One of the newly elected Executive Bureau members, Kostadin
Paskalev, told journalists that one of his party's main
priorities will be categorical opposition. He commented that BSP
is open for dialogue with ABV, adding, however, that the ego of
a party leader can not stand above the ideas.
