GERB to Announce Presidential Nominee in September - Prime Minister

Sofia, May 27 (BTA) - GERB will announce its nominee for the presidential elections in September, party leader and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on Friday.

One option for the nomination was President Rosen Plevneliev for a second term in office. "I would have talked to him first, but he has his personal reasons, so this subject should be dropped," Borissov said. Former President Peter Stoyanov is not an option because reportedly he does not have ambitions for the position either.

Borissov also said that if he had wanted such a career, he would have become a president years ago. However, he has never been attracted to that, nor does he think he could have contributed as president as much as he does in his current position.

GERB's leader said he saw no cause for concern in the negotiations between parties of the Patriotic Front and former President Purvanov's left-wing ABV party about a possible joint presidential nomination. He does not see this as problematic for the coalition government either.
