Lack of Confidence in Institutions Prevails in May Poll

Sofia, May 29 (BTA) - In the month of May, 25 per cent of the people had confidence in the Government, compared to 64 per cent, who declared they did not trust the incumbents, according to an opinion poll conducted by Gallup International. 16 per cent assessed positively Parliament's performance against 75 per cent with a negative assessment. 23 per cent declared support for the President, compared to 66 per cent, who expressed a critical attitude towards him.

The poll was carried out shortly after the congress of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the withdrawal of the ABV support for the Cabinet and the proposal of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria to nominate President Rosen Plevenliev for a second term but before the latter's statement that he will not run for re-election.

Some 25 per cent said they would vote for GERB if elections were now, over 12 per cent would give their vote for BSP, over 5 per cent for the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, around 5 per cent for the Reformist Bloc and over 4 per cent for the Patriotic Front. ABV, Ataka and a potential formation of TV host Slavi Trifonov would receive 3 per cent each. 37 per cent said they would not vote.

Twenty-two per cent consider that Bulgaria "is going to a better future", while 59 per cent have the opposite opinion.

The figures were taken from a regular monthly survey of the polling agency. The poll was carried out in the period from May 13 to 19, 2016 among 819 Bulgarians over the age of 18.
