Only 4.4% Registered Cars in Bulgaria in 2016 Are New

Sofia, January 16 (BTA) - By the end of 2016, the number of registered new cars in Bulgaria (up to five years old) was only 4.4 per cent. A total of two thirds were above 15 years old, only 14 per cent were below 10 years old and 40 per cent were manufactured more than 20 years ago. This has transpired from official statistics publicized by Borislav Tsakov, Chairman of Press-Auto Club - Bulgaria, at a news conference in BTA. Bulgaria tends to become Europe's "car graveyard" but this obviously does not concern anyone. The fact that 2,474 hybrid cars and 274 cars were registered last year gives some grounds for optimism.

Talking about the 20th Jubilee Competition "Automobile of the 2017 Year", the organizers said that rather than having a competitive nature, it sought to outline the tendencies of the near future: environment protection, including the fight for cleaner air, safer travel with less technical problems, etc.

The participants will compete in six categories. The first stage of the competition ended on January 14 with a test drive. The 40 journalists from the Club have nominated 60 participants.
