Border Police Detains Migrants, Suspected Smuggler of People at Bulgarian-Turkish Border

Sofia, February 15 (BTA) - A Bulgarian national suspected to be involved in smuggling of humans has been detained by the border police, the Interior Ministry said in a press release Wednesday.

While patrolling in the area of the village of Voden on the night to Wednesday, the border police detained a group of foreigners: one man, five women and four children, who identified themselves as nationals of Syria and said that they had been taken across the border "in an organized manner". The border police officers searched the area and found and detained a 49-year-old Bulgarian national, resident of the southern town of Haskovo, 50 m away from the location where they encountered the foreigners. A check established that the person had left Bulgaria legally via the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint on February 13 and had not been registered to have returned.
