Supreme Administrative Court Rejects as Inadmissible Four Petitions against Registration of Yes, Bulgaria! Coalition for March 26 Elections

Sofia, February 15 (BTA) - The Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) Wednesday closed a case on four petitions that were filed against the registration of the Yes, Bulgaria! coalition for the March 26 early general elections, Yes, Bulgaria! reported. The court found the petition to be inadmissible.

The Election Code treats as legitimate only petitions against refusals by the Central Election Commission of the registration of parties for participation in the elections.

The first petition against the registration of the Yes, Bulgaria! coalition was filed by a carpet dealer, the second by a sex shop owner and the third by a man who claimed that "a coalition with the Greens and DEOS under the name of Yes, Bulgaria! creates a wrong impression about the entities in the coalition and threatens to disgrace them", mediapool.bg writes. The last petition was filed by Times Media EOOD which complained that the participation of DEOS was not indicated during the campaign for collecting signatures in support of the coalition's registration.

The Yes, Bulgaria! Movement of former Justice Minister Hristo Ivanov had to seek a coalition to run in the upcoming elections when the court received three petitions challenging its registration for the elections on the last possible day. Even though the petitions were an obvious sham, the timing prevented the organization from running in the elections on its own. It registered the Yes, Bulgaria! coalition with the Greens and DEOS after collecting the record-setting 20,000 signatures, up from the 5,000 or so required by law, in a single day.
