Pm Orders Check into Specialized Transport by National Bodyguard Service

Sofia, February 20 (BTA) - Prime Minister Ognyan Gerdzhikov has ordered a check of how specialized transport is provided by the National Bodyguard Service (NBS), the government press office said Monday,

Specialized transport is one of four security services provided by the NBS.

According to the effective NBS law, the list of persons entitled to specialized services includes the President, the Parliament leader and the Prime Minister. The law also says that specialized transport can also be provided to the government ministers, the members of the Constitutional Court, the deputy chairpersons of the National Assembly, the Presidents of the Supreme Court of Cassation and the Supreme Administrative Court, the Ombudsman and the Sofia Mayor.

A government decision of April 2016 ordered the suspension of specialized transport for the deputy prime ministers and government members.

Gerdzhikov argues that that was wrong and that a government order may not supersede a law.

Gerdzhikov's position is that it is the right of the above office holders to decide whether to use specialized transport or not.
