Foreign Minister Zaharieva Confers with EU Council President Tusk

Brussels, May 16 (BTA) - Deputy Prime Minister for judicial reform and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva conferred here with European Council President Donald Tusk, who congratulated her and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on their elections. The EU Council President voiced confidence that he will continue working with Borissov's Government as he has done in the past, describing the Bulgarian Prime Minister as a stable and predictable partner, the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

Zaharieva said that by designating a Deputy Prime Minister for judicial reform, Borissov's third Cabinet gives a clear sign that this will be one of the most important highlights of its work. She also congratulated Tusk on his reelection to the post.

The Foreign Minister reaffirmed that the European and Euro-atlantic orientation remains a top priority for the Bulgarian Government. She acquainted Tusk with the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Bulgarian EU Presidency, who in turn expressed his confidence that Bulgaria will contribute to the important debates about the EU's future.

The two discussed the situation in the Western Balkans, including the developments of political processes in Macedonia. The EU Council President assessed highly Bulgaria's balanced and responsible position and Prime Minister Borissov's appeal to Macedonia's political leaders, to find a way out of the political crisis, the Foreign Ministry's press release said.
