Clashes in RadnevoLeave Three Police Officers, Protesters Injured

Radnevo, Southern Bulgaria, May 5 (BTA) - Clashes between police and protesters in the southern town of Radnevo left three officers and an unconfirmed number of protesters injured on the night of May 4. On the third night of the protest, protesters broke through the police cordon and reached the Roma neighbourhood after the end of the rally.

Some of the 2,000-strong crowd chanted 'Bulgaria Above Everything'.

The residents of the Roma neighborhood had been evacuated earlier.

The protest will go into its fourth day on Thursday.

The protest in Radnevo erupted after on May 2 four Roma men assaulted with bats three youths for failing to yield right of way.  New clashes are expected on Thursday, when the court in Stara Zagora will consider whether to leave in custody the assaulters.
