Parliament Chair Tsacheva Confers with Hungarian Counterpart Kover

Sofia, September 16 (BTA) - Parliament Chair Tsetska Tsacheva conferred with her Hungarian counterpart Laszlo Kover during the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament, the National Assembly said in a press release on Friday.

Kover thanked Tsacheva for the draft resolution, adopted by the Bulgarian Parliament on Thursday, which declares October 19 Bulgarian-Hungarian Friendship Day.

Tsacheva noted that this happened with a majority of 130 MPs, without any votes against or any abstentions, despite the fact that the Bulgarian Parliament has eight parliamentary groups. This, in her words, is an expression of the historical and friendly relations between the two countries, which should be further deepened.

She thanked for the support expressed by the Visegrad Four for Bulgaria in protecting the external border with Turkey. Tsacheva noted that this country needs such assistance and counts on European solidarity for this question.

Laszlo Kover noted that this is motivated by the friendly feelings towards the Bulgarian people, as well as by the sense of national interest. "We, by supporting you, are supporting our national interest as well," he underscored. Kover has voiced support for Bulgaria's Schengen membership, because it has met all requirements. Bulgaria has always shown understanding when Hungary was subjected to criticism, which is why Bulgaria can expect to be treated in a similar fashion, he is quoted as saying.
