Berlin Offers Bulgaria Joint Projects in Culture
Berlin, January 20 (BTA) - Germany is ready to implement major cultural projects with Bulgaria. This transpired during a Friday meeting between Bulgarian Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov and the Director-General of the State Museums of Berlin and the Pergamonmuseum, Prof. Michael Eissenhauer. The outgoing Minister of Culture is paying a short working visit to Germany, his ministry said on Friday.
Prof. Eissenhauer congratulated Rashidov on Bulgaria's exhibition at the Louvre and declared that it would be an honour for Germany to have such a large-scale project with Bulgaria as the country's cultural heritage is unique. In turn, German museums can exhibit some of their particularly valuable collections in Bulgaria, as well as to participate in cultural events from the programme of Bulgaria's EU Chairmanship.
Germany also categorically supports Rashidov's earlier proposal, made at a meeting of the Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council in Brussels, relevant to a joint exhibition of EU member-countries during Bulgaria's presidency in 2018. This emerged during his talks with the management of German museums. The readiness was also confirmed during a meeting with Gernot Erler, Floor Leader at the Bundestag and head of the German-Bulgarian Forum. Erler congratulated Rashidov for the achievements of Bulgarian culture and the efforts of his team to preserve cultural heritage and fight illegal trafficking of cultural values. The work of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin and of Goethe Institute in Sofia was also appreciated.
Rashidov also paid his respects to the memory of the victims of the attack during last year's Christmas bazaar at Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
