The European Union has imposed sanctions on 79 ships and among them there is no Bulgarian vessel so far, said the spokesperson of the European Commission (EC) at a press conference on Tuesday in response to a question related to the case of the Vezhen ship.
The list includes mainly oil and methane tankers, the spokesperson explained. Asked to assess the latest incident in the Baltic Sea, he said the Commission could not comment on unfinished investigations.
"The EC is sympathetic to the countries of the Baltic Sea, the security of infrastructure is a top priority", the spokesperson said, adding that the Commission is working to improve the ability to detect and repair the damage caused. According to the spokesman, securing facilities is a task for individual EU countries, and the commission can support investigations into incidents and the development of security systems at important sites.
