Taxi drivers blocked the approaches to Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport on Friday to protest the airport's new access rules. They said they would remain there until 10pm if their demands remain unheard.
Sofia Airport enforced its new access rules on January 9, limiting unpaid entry for vehicles, including taxis, to 10 minutes in the so called kiss-and-ride area. Vehicles can only spend 10 minutes free of charge in the kiss-and-ride area within an hour and if they enter more than once, they have to pay. It is against this rule in particular that taxi drivers are protesting.
The airport authorities put out an advisory for passengers on Friday to avoid using a car to the airport and opt for public transport.
